We had a brilliant time and would recommend to anyone wanting to experience typical Costa Rican cloud forest but escape the crowds. Set in its own private cloud forest reserve with three waterfalls, you can trek, spa, relax and eat amazing food to your hearts content. The spa is excellent and the rooms/bungalows, are really fabulous with their own outdoor jacuzzis and tons of space. Six stars service!

Our family of 3 adult children and 2 parents ended our Costa Rican vacation at El Silencio. We had stayed at the beach, at the volcano, in the rain forest, and ended in the cloud forest. We rented 2 villas and were enchanted with the accommodations--the luxurious beds, bath, and hot tubs. We appreciated the attention not only to detail but to ecology in the accommodations and food preparation. Going green in luxurious surroundings put us even more in touch with our natural surroundings. We took advantage of the narrated tour of the property, spent a day at a nearby town learning the history of chocolate and making some ourselves, plus we planted a "family" tree on the El Silencio property. Staff at El Silencio soon became friends as they attended to our every need. The food was a delightful treat at each meal. I highly recommend El Silencio and hope to return in the future!
"Having just spent 9 days in the amazing beauty of El Silencio Lodge, the peace and tranquility that we experienced from the very start will be with us for a very long time. Every one of the staff was so delightful, friendly, refreshing, gracious, and helpful reflecting the true Costa Rican hospitality that we have always loved. The beauty of El Silencio where one can literally hear God whispering is awesome. The babbling river over the rocks in front of the restaurant and lounge and some villas, was the perfect place to unwind with the forever peace and serenity of the surroundings. The smiles of everyone made us feel truly at home. The special requests were so graciously attended to and so promptly. And the food - oh! the food and water - so pure, fresh, wholesome, delicious, especially the salmon trout and tilapia! We are truly grateful to have found this gem of a retreat - calling it a hotel with suites is an understatement. An exclusive mountain retreat in the cloud forest with very private chalets it truly is!!! Yes, we live in another beautiful part of the world but oh so very different. Having always sought out other amazingly beautiful places and we can truly say that El Silencio is of the best."

"Where do I begin? I was at awed upon arriving in our beautifully appointed suite, and this sense of awe never left me until the day we checked out. I enjoyed many blissful mornings on the deck, while watching the sifting clouds above and around the emerald mountains in front; silence was never so delicious. The beautiful wandering horses delighted our idle moments, and especially after we rode them to visit the charming Los Bajos village, the pasture with magnificent views, and crossing streams. I loved the hummingbird garden, and how meditative and mesmerizing to be in it. We enjoyed the massages at the spa and I was very impressed with the skills and attentiveness of your spa staff.
We did the Oxcart painting with Ronald, who created a pampering and serene (complete with mood music) painting experience for us. I also owe thanks to William, the Eco-Concierge who rescued a bird with us and arranged a complimentary zipline/water rafting tour for me for the Pozo Azul; my daughter is still wearing that wrist band with pride.”

“From the moment we arrived we felt like we could stay forever. The staff was so warm and welcoming. We wish we would have stayed longer -- and next time we visit we will. There is a sense of calm, peace and beauty that you can't seem to get enough of. We took advantage of the cultural tour which was one of the highlights of our trip. They also arranged a coffee tour for us which was outstanding. The casita was beautiful. We could have spent a week on the porch rocking in rocking chairs, reading and enjoying the wildlife around us.”

“El Silencio was our first of 3 hotels on our 9 day Honeymoon. WHAT A PERFECT START! El Silencio was the perfect place to begin our Honeymoon. Like the name says, QUIET. After a 5 day, weekend destination wedding with our families in Key West Florida, El Silencio was the best place in the world to unwind. We loved....The FOOD! Much of it was organic and tasted SOOOOO GOOOOOD! The Hike with Andrey was GREAT! We hiked to the waterfalls and learned a lot.”

“This ended up being my favorite stop in Costa Rica. Mountains are surreal with their verdant color and clouds hanging at their bases. The rooms were wonderful. Bed was the most comfortable I had ever had anywhere. Cozy high quality sheets and blankets. Porch was perfect for watching birds and listening to the river.”
